Lion Castle - No.6

Lion Castle 1

The entrance to No. 6 Lion Castle is revealed as you pass through a series of beautifully planted arched top arbours along a curving footpath. You are greeted by a reception gazebo with an intimate bridge over a lily pond. At this point one cannot help but admire the breathtaking views of the polo field with Bridgetown and the deep water harbour in the distance. The driving force behind the design was to capitalise on these spectacular views and allow them to be enjoyed from most of the house.

To achieve this goal, we placed the villa at the highest point on the site and spread out the accommodation on one level, wrapping it around the pool and pool deck. This allows the living room and all bedrooms to open onto the patio and overlook the pool towards the view. Each bedroom has a double door opening onto the corridor with a corresponding double door directly across the corridor opening onto the patio. This allows the bedrooms to enjoy the best of both worlds; the cooling breezes from the east and the views to the west / south west.

This ranch style villa consists of 4 bedrooms and 4 1/2 bathrooms with an open air shower in the en-suite master bathroom. The eastern side of the house features a series of bay windows with decorative wrought iron grills. These bay windows structures, with the grills on the outside, allow the living room and bedroom windows to be left open during tropical downpours. Whether fully open or just with the louvers open, the jalousie windows allow the cooling trade winds at this elevated site to percolate through the house maintaining a comfortable temperature year round.
